The Purpose
Frommers provides curated travel content in the form of expert reviews of Points of Interest and Events of Interest. This content needed to be captured and stored in a structured manner in order to allow the creation of personalized travel guides, books and sites for users. Travel writers needed to author content and tag it with appropriate metadata while on the road in (possibly) remote locations.
The Tech
A complex taxonomy application was built on top of an Alfresco-based content management platform to support the metadata required by the system. The authoring tools were developed using cross-platform HTML5/Javascript to allow authors to create content on the go. The content was subsequently integrated into the Google Maps platform, after Google’s acquisition of Frommers.
